I have to admit though, that there is an aspect of these great educational conversations on Twitter that I am finding a bit frustrating. I have either viewed or been a part of many education-related chats where I see people new to the profession deciding to take the dive into this valuable forum. And it must be said, that this is rarely done lightly. Most people are very apprehensive about social media like Twitter, especially when it comes to publicly sharing opinions and engaging in conversation. So when I see these same people being treated in a way that is disrespectful and rude, it upsets me greatly.
And I have to say, I have seen some back-and-forths on Twitter that have seriously lacked in the area of respect. And in many cases, it is towards those whose passion and 'fire' for the job is at its most fragile. The importance of those first few years as a teacher can't be stressed enough and I guess I question the motive of a person who wants to tear a person apart as they begin to navigate one of the most complex and morally significant professions on the planet. Quite often the tone, spirit or exact words are demeaning and discouraging, to the point that some have questioned why they bothered entering the conversation in the first place.
