Tonight in the Langley School District we had our first session of our Engaging the Digital Learner session and our keynote guest, Antonio Vendramin presented our group of eager educators with many key ideas related to learning, engagement and the role of technology in schools. And while I could write for a while on all the great learning I personally enjoyed during this forum, there was one simple question he asked that really had me thinking ... why does school suck?
So then it begs the question, what do we do about it? There are many, many different articles and blog posts about how to engage students. I know at our school, West Langley Elementary, we have been working towards our goal of "engaging students in authentic learning empowered by technology." But maybe just asking your own students the same simple question we were given to ponder tonight, "Why does school suck?" might give us some greater insights into how best to engage the kids we work with.
